TIME SURE FLIES BY WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN, RIGHT?
2014 has came and went, and it’s time to start thinking big things for 2015! Of course, this means another great year of gaming has come and gone.. However, it doesn’t mean that another year of epic achievements and brawls with friends isn’t right around the corner! With that in mind, I figure we should talk about the stuff that Keep It Nerdy dreams to see whether it happens or not in 2015!
We’re all pretty big fans of the Fallout Series here at Keep It Nerdy. From the early days of Interplay to the amazing job that Bethesda has done with the game so far, Fallout has not only been an amazing game to play but such a vast open world has left us exploring for hours on end. I know it probably won’t be out in 2015 and I wouldn’t want them to rush it at all, but I’m dying to know some details in regards to the game. Location? Time Period? More Background on the “Great War”!?
MARIO PARTY FOR THE WIIU
One of the only game that makes us want to punch some of our closest friends in the face. Mario Party can turn an afternoon of gaming with your friends, into a physical brawl because some asshole stole your star in the last round and made you lose. It sounds like a horrible experience but any fan of Mario Party knows that is what makes the game fun.
HALF-LIFE 3… BUELLER? BUELLER?
Yeah yeah.. we probably won’t hold our breath long for this one, and you really can’t hold it against anyone for wanting this. I know that earlier this year it was said that Half-Life 3 was in the work but we’re just dying for some concrete proof. That’s all I want from Value this year. Screen Shots, Tech Vids, etc. I don’t even care if the game doesn’t come out until 2016, I just want to FOR SURE know that this game is going to come out.
LEFT 4 DEAD 3
Let’s be honest, we’re already starting to ask a lot from Value between Half Life 3 and this, but it’s been nearly 5 years since L4D2 came out and we have an itch only a shotgun to a zombie’s head can scratch. While the game has been announced as ‘in the works’ – we really need something to tide us over in the meantime.
MORE WIIU GAMES!
I love my WiiU to death, but lately, the selection of games for the WiiU has really been bringing me down. And not just the selection of games, but the fact that the console has been out for a bit over 2 years now, and we’ve only had a handful of blockbuster titles on the system itself. Especially in comparison to the selections available for XBOX One and PS4.
Seriously? What the fuck is up with that? I feel like every season there is only like 1-2 games for the WiiU that are worth getting while the other consoles have enough game releases to make my wallet very, very sad.
LET THE (MAJOR LEAGUE) GAMING BEGIN!
With the interest in eSports starting to plateau in mainstream media, we really think more of a focus on televised sports or events around eSports for games like League of Legends, Dota, SC2, etc. can really help bring it to the next level. I love the idea of watching the tournaments on TV. I also love the idea that some schools are even giving scholarships for this. We definitely are a big supporter and would love to see more emphasis on this in the upcoming year.
RAISE THE BAN HAMMER IN THE GAMING COMMUNITY!
I have no problem at all accepting a loss, when it is one. Being a good sport is what keeps a gaming community strong – both online and off.
It’s one thing to talk trash with your friends, and another thing entirely to constantly be playing online with 12 year olds that just learned the word “fuck” and their signature catch phrase is “fucked your mother.” I’m growing tired of playing games where people look at the idea of being “Banned” and laugh it off as it was nothing at all. It’s time to really drop the ban hammer on these foul mouth, toxic players because it messes with the gaming experience forall. It’s time to start making people really worry about the idea of banned again!
A REAL REASON TO BUY A NEXT GEN CONSOLE
While this may be just a bit personal for me, there haven’t been any releases on either PS4 or XBOX One that have truly sold me on a next gen system. Sure, PS4 & Xbone are both great consoles, but most the games to date have been rehashed content dressed up all pretty as a sequel. Money hasn’t even been a deciding factor, and as the price of the consoles start to drop significantly, I think that Microsoft and Sony are realizing that without content, those systems are quickly becoming modern day paperweights.
WITH THE GOOD, MUST COME THE BAD..
While this list may be a bit personal, we definitely know that a good majority of you gamers can feel us on this. Especially as we are force fed the same content year after year. Give us something revolutionary! Give us something worth while! Quit promising amazing content that isn’t even playable at launch! STOP THE PREORDER MADNESS WE SAY!
BAD ZOMBIE GAMES
We’re totally a hypocrite when we say we want L4D3 and make this the first thing on our list in regard to things we don’t want to see in 2015. But the bad zombie games just need to stop. We’re really growing weary of the Dead Islands, Resident Evil’s, Dead Rising, etc.
These titles have had a great run, but like all good things.. They must come to an end. Unless you want to be known for being the ‘Land Before Time’ or ‘Saw’ of your genre and continue to beat the dead horse, by all means..
CALL OF DUTY GAMES
It’s not that we dislike the COD franchise, but a new game every year which is essentially a reskinned version of the last one is not ideal for both gamer and wallet. Why not take a year off and come up with something to really WOW us? While you’re at it, take some of that time to fix the damn multiplayer issues that have been addressed time and time again. Because let’s be honest, spawning and automatically dying gets really annoying after the 4 time in the same match.
MARIO SPORT GAMES
Who the hell is playing these where Nintendo keeps getting the great idea that they should send Mario & Sonic to the Olympics? Or to the PGA World Tour? Or whatever other sport they can come up with?
If you’ve been watching Nintendo’s financial crisis at all, you will know that they’ve been hurting for quite some time and struggling to stay a float. We are pretty damn sure that the poor choices in producing these games aren’t helping that cause out by any means, to say the least.
MOTION CONTROL GAMES
While we LOVED the Wii, the controls and more so the lack of control for the motion features, grew old pretty quickly. Next Gen Consoles have tried to replicate the thrill of it by offering Kinect and even PlayStation Move, however, the sensitivity in addition to the clunkiness of it isn’t enough to save face.
FINAL FANTASY GAMES
We know there is another on the way and quickly, however, the magic that was Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy Tactics just can’t tide us over with these pathetic attempts at carrying on the legacy. The sequels just seem to make it worse at this point.
Not to be a Negative Nancy, but we really are getting sick of these Negative Nancy’s. Foul mouthed children are causing a scene and overall just being poor sports. There’s no problem with talking trash in the name of the sport, but can’t we just pretend to be mature for a round or two? Or at least give our mums a break for a couple rounds?
LIMITED EDITION CONSOLES NEED TO STOP
Sometimes a limited edition of a console is just the way to target a demographic into finally hopping on the bandwagon of your console. For example, I never would have purchased my WiiU had it not been the Legend of Zelda one. However, Xbox One already has a handful of different variations, that are just the same console with a different skin. COD Version, Destiny Version, Day One Edition, Sunset Overdrive Version, All White Xbox One… Just to name a few you know..
PAY FOR PLAY BUSINESS MODELS
We all know this one is just wishful thinking. But all types of Pay to Play models need to go. The first we want to address is Xbox Live. There is no reason why we should be required to pay for XBL just to use Netflix on a Console. Especially when we already pay for Netflix in general. And while more and more games require a subscription to play, we are slowly being suckered in to Xbox Live becoming mandatory in order to use the Xbox One. What about this is truly Next Gen?
Secondly, Free to Play models definitely fall into this category. If you want to be good, you’ll need to spend hours upon hours grinding your life away to get mediocre gear. OR, you can spend $20 here, maybe $30 there, and be the best of the best. This just goes to show that the universal language is truly money. And if you have the money, you get to play the game. And we may just not be talking about video games anymore at this point..
OVERPRICED GAMES, PREORDERS, DLC.. OH MY!
While money is the least of our problems, we find it more difficult to justify that $60 price tag on any video game now days. Between the preorders, unplayable launches, and being forced into paying more for DLC, we’re sick of the price of 15 hours of entertainment rocketing through the roof.
We definitely get a bit spoiled buying games on steam, as they can often run a bit cheaper. Especially now with the Holiday sale going on. However, I’ve seen the same game going for $30 on Steam, and then selling for $50-60 in any store. There is no way a plastic case and a disk can cost that much extra. And while we do understand licensing, distributing, etc. can account for some of the mark up, how much longer are we going to stand around until that mark up breaks $100 for a single game?
