Everything You Need To Know About Star Wars Episode VII

With the fairly recent Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm’s much has been left uncertain about the future of the Star Wars name. Especially when the rumor mill picked up a new feature film and it was eventually confirmed that Star Wars Episode VII was in the works.

As time progressed and Star Wars Episode VII moved into pre-production there is still little to be confirmed about the movie itself, including many of the actors according to IMDB. Rumors have it that much of the original cast will make a return, including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels.

Even with rumors of the all-star cast returning, we do have solid confirmation that the movie is set to take place 30 years after the 1983 classic Return of the Jedi. So the likely hood of having some familiar faces return is a definite possibility since the aging they took on IRL won’t make too big of a difference on screen.

Surfacing yesterday are strong rumors that can almost confirm the possibility of Episode VII returning to Hoth. Icelandic website Visir.is announced that crew members would be heading that way in April to shoot “Plate Shots” a month ahead of the Production start date in May 2014. While no actors will be setting foot on the Icelandic soil (yet), it’s safe to assume that those same icy mountains used in HBO hit series Game of Thrones could make for a great Hoth.

Additionally, Breathe Cast has found evidence that we may finally get what we’ve always dreamed of.. And that’s a first hand look at the sinister and dark Sith World recently renamed as Moraband.

With everyone involved on the project keeping super tight lips about the details, what is it that we really know?

Well for starters, the film is going to be directed and co-written by JJ Abrams (Lost, Star Trek, Cloverfield) and has a release date currently set for December 18th, 2015. This means we should be seeing some awesome set stills and a teaser trailer before the end of the year!

While not entirely confirmed yet, it is almost certain that Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Driver, Jesse Plemons and Hugo Weaving will all have major lead parts in the upcoming film. Lupita Nyong’o is rumored to play a female lead which is a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi while Adam Driver is likely to head on to the dark side as a modern day Vader-like villain. Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) in entirely confirmed for his role but there is no mention as to what it might be just yet. And as far as Hugo Weaving goes, he has met with JJ Abrams personally in regards to the role of “Imperial Commander”.

As far as the script goes, the first version of it was said to focus more on the offspring of the original cast but after a few rewrites Abrams has come out that the original three will have a higher priority than their offspring. We know Abrams is a fan of time traveling, so the idea of something like that popping up isn’t far off from reality. However, further investigation has revealed that the story is to focus on “twins” -which could leave us with a story line of Luke and Leia in the aftermath of it all or quite possibly focus more on Jacen and Jaina Solo, the offspring of Han and Leia. For those of you who haven’t read some of the Star Wars novels the next thing I’m about to say could be a MAJOR spoiler. Jacen and Jaina go back and forth between a good and evil which leads the current rumored plot up in the air as to who will choose the dark side of the force. However, in the book Jacen eventually chooses the dark side and becomes Darth Caedus.

Since it is said to take 30 years in the future, this may have the film starting off with the rebuild of the Republic, or at least the aftermath and a new state of government since the Empire has fallen. While there can only be speculation at this time, it is very clear that the rebuild has left a disturbance in the force.

Staying true to the originals, it’s no wonder why the crew is keeping John Williams heavily involved in composing the score. After all, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has the Imperial March as a ringtone for those I do NOT want to pick up the phone for.

While most remains speculation and will for quite sometime, it is clear that the future of Star Wars Episode VII is looking bright. Keep checking back in as we report more as the story develops.
